Bees are Valuable to the Natural World

Due to their integral role in the pollination process, bees are valuable to the natural world. It is only when they turn your home into their dwelling that they become a harmful nuisance. With the help of pest control, you can safely relocate these insects to their proper home.

Bees are Bringers of Life When Found in the Proper Environment

Bees allow flowers to flourish with lush vibrancy. When left in a natural environment, they are essential to the promotion of life. Only within a domestic context do bees become dangerous. If you observe them in your home, contact a pest control service to keep these insects in their proper environment.

The Different Types of Bees

Scientists have identified at least 20,000 different bee species in the world, all with their own unique qualities and characteristics. Living in colonies with strict hierarchies, bees fit into these categories: queen bee, drone, and worker bee. Here are three different types of commonly found bees, and some fun facts about each.

Honeybees

Also called social bees, honeybees live in colonies around the world consisting of up to 50,000-60,000 workers. They are unique in part because they can stay alive for many years, keeping close contact for warmth and eating honey during the winter months. Their barbed stingers tear off post-stinging, so they can only sting once. They are used extensively for honey production and crop pollination.

Bumblebee

Colonies of bumblebees are relatively small compared to honeybees – generally around 120-200 workers. This bee type is also very helpful in crop and plant pollination. Stingers are smooth and do not attach to skin after stinging someone; therefore they can sting multiple times. Bumblebees aggressively defend their nests and will chase dangerous invaders over long distances.

Killer Bees

Similar in appearance to regular honeybees, Africanized killer bees have differing wing measurements. Generally found in the Western and Southern parts of the U.S., and South America, these bees usually attack in larger numbers. Despite the name their venom is similar in potency to regular honeybees. If you find yourself being pursued by these bees, it’s best to run in a zigzag pattern and immediately find shelter. Killer bees can also only sting once. The Various Species of Lizards

Descendants of dinosaurs, lizards are the largest group of reptiles living worldwide and can be found in all types of environments. Cold-blooded creatures varying widely in characteristics, they share the following physical aspects: lungs, scales or plates, and vertebrae. Here are three species of lizards and some interesting information on each.

Chameleons

Chameleons’ bodies are leaf-like in shape and flat from side to side. They move slowly and can remain unmoving and hidden for long lengths of time. They have pincers and tails that are well-suited for climbing and balance. Some species of chameleon have unique visual features such as eyes that can gaze in different directions, extra-long tongues, horns, pincers, etc. Their name refers to the fact that some can change colors depending on their environment.

Geckos

This type of lizard is the only kind that makes an auditory sound, sometimes called a bark. They can climb vertical and smooth surfaces, and even indoor ceilings without too much effort, due to their unusual toe pads. Scientists estimate at least 2,000 different species globally, with many having not been identified yet.

Iguanas

Iguanas can be as big as five to six feet long, including the tail. They are known for their superior vision, able to see shapes, colors, long distance movement, and shadows. Unfortunately for these creatures, many human cultures consider them to be a delicacy and hunt them with slingshots. Iguanas are a common household pet.
